My initial desire to see this film came from its promise of showing me both my childhood city, Brooklyn, and my mother tongue, Russian, being vividly portrayed on the big screen. But seeing Anora, I was treated to a more philosophical and pleasurable experience, watching a detailed account of an eclectic cast of characters responding to a complicated situation in which none of them have any control.
